About Us
The Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT) was established in January 1934 as a fellowship of Churches and Christian Organizations. It was then named the Tanganyika Missionary Council until 1964 when it adopted its current name. The CCT has since grown in membership to 15 National Churches (which includes 75 Dioceses) and 14 Church-Related Organizations.

The Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT)
is an Ecumenical Church Organization formed by fifteen Protestant
Churches and fourteen Para-Church Organizations / Ministries. Its policy-making structure is comprised of the supreme body, the General Assembly consisting of all members; a team of Officers made up of the Council's Chair, the First Vice-Chair, the Second Vice-Chair and the General Secretary; an Executive Council consisting of the Officers, the heads of member churches and dioceses, corporate agencies, societies and representatives, the general secretaries of unified churches or dioceses, heads of the Council's departments, directorates, sections and units; and a Standing Committee consisting of the Officers and five other members.
CCT Purpose
The four purposes of the CCT are:
- to promote and sustain the spiritual unity of the churches.
- to serve as an instrument of the churches for monitoring and expressing a common voice on issues of interest to the churches and those issues concerning the spiritual, moral, socio-economic and physical welfare of the people.
- to promote and take an active role in the development and provision of welfare services for the communities of people served by the churches.
- to strengthen and build capacity of the member churches to respond effectively to emergencies, human displacement, gender equity, good governance, justice and HIV / AIDS pandemic and orphans.
